[Jailbreak]PersistentAssistant allows you to have a more engaging Siri conversation

tags: iPhone Discussion PersistentAssistant allows you to have a more engaging Siri conversation

If you like using Siri for hands-free use of your iPhone, especially when driving, then you might be a little annoyed when you have to actually use your hands to control her. After you invoke Siri (holding down the home button) and ask your first question, you will have to tap on the microphone once more to ask your next question. Luckily, iOS developer Bradley Friedman has fixed this issue by making Siri listen to you, without the need to use your hands to operate Siri, with a new free jailbreak tweak dubbed PersistentAssistant.

Since having to tap on the microphone each time while you are driving is an obvious road hazard, this tweak makes it so that you can use Siri persistently without ever having to touch Siri's microphone. Of course, the tweak does require that you invoke Siri at least once before it kicks in. As soon as she stops answering your first question, the tweak kicks in by activating the listening service once more.

PersistentAssistant will work with the iPhone 4S, which has Siri pre-installed, and it will also work with Spire for other iOS devices. Spire doesn’t run on any firmware newer than iOS 5.0.1, so you will not be able to use this tweak with the new iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak unless you have an iPhone 4S. You can enable and disable PersistentAssistant on demand from the preferences pane that can be found in the Settings application after installing the tweak:

While the tweak does fix a major problem with Siri that could become either cumbersome to the average user or hazardous to people trying to operate their phones without their hands when driving, the tweak doesn’t replace a popular paid jailbreak tweak dubbed Hands-Free Control. Hands-Free Control will do what this tweak does and also allow the user to invoke Siri using their voice without the need to press the home button at all. For a free tweak, however, PersistentAssistant could be at least somewhat helpful along the way. Check it out if you're a Siri user!
