Sometimes when updating your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to the latest iOS, you might get an Error Code 1013 in iTunes. If you are getting the error 1013 then you can fix it by following the below given steps.

One of the main reason for this problem is having used third party jailbreak tools on your computer. These tools edit the hosts file of your Windows or Mac computer so that when you upgrade firmware on iPhone, iTunes connects to Cydia’s server and not Apple’s servers.

How to fix Error 1013 in iTunes?
1. Download TinyUmbrella for Mac or Windows

2. Windows 7 and Windows Vista users need to do the follow these additional steps before moving on to the next step.
-Right click TinyUmbrella.exe and open Properties
-Click on the Compatibility tab
-Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and choose Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the drop down menu.
-Select “Run this program as an administrator” in the Privilege Level

-Click Apply followed by OK[b]


3. Launch TinyUmbrella.

4. Open Advanced tab and Deselect Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit option.



5. Apply the changes and exit TinyUmbrella.

6. Restart your Mac or Windows computer.


You are likely to get the iTunes error fixed by following the above given steps. If somehow you are unable to get it fixed then you can also use the below given steps to fix the iTunes error 1013 on your Mac OS X and Windows.

Note: Your device baseband will be upgraded to the latest version after following the steps.


Fix iTunes Error 1013 on Mac OS X
1. Go to your “Applications” folder.
2. Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.
3. Launch “Terminal”.
4. Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return.
5. Enter your password
6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.
7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O.
8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X.
9. Restore your iDevice.


Fix iTunes Error 1013 on Windows
1. Start >> Programs >> Accessories
2. Run Notepad or WordPad
3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
5. In “files of type:” select all documents
6. Open “hosts”
7. Delete all line that has “gs.apple.com” or something like that
8. Hit Save
9. Restore your device
